Visual Arts Coordinator

The highlight of my role as K-12 Visual Arts Coordinator for Champaign Schools is to create professional development for the Art teachers in the district.  I have forged partnerships with community stakeholders, including the University of Illinois School of Fine + Applied Arts and local arts businesses, to align and reinforce goals of Unit 4’s Strategic Plan in the areas of student achievement, faculty and staff excellence, community engagement and diversity.

[FRAMED]

[FRAMED] provides an outlet for the Champaign Unit 4 School District to highlight exceptional artwork created in the classroom, bringing recognition to students, teachers, and schools alike. As a result of [FRAMED], our community’s smallest and youngest creative individuals get the opportunity to interact with one of the oldest and largest forms of media. Throughout the course of the year, student artwork is displayed on Adams Outdoor’s six digital billboards around town.

[Those Who Teach, Can]

Since its inception in 2011, Champaign Unit 4 Art teachers have organized an annual exhibition of their personal works.  The teachers collaborate on every aspect of the show from hanging, making labels, buying wine for the reception (very important!), designing and distributing promotional materials, and gallery sitting.  The opening reception draws hundreds of community members to Champaign’s indi go gallery to appreciate the talent of the phenomenal teachers in Unit 4.
